THE BODY AS ECOSYSTEM

Food

Air Quality

Community

All living things have tolerance ranges. While carp may be just fine in an acidic pond, frog's eggs won't survive; canaries die faster than humans when the air inside mines gets contaminated. Different humans can better survive different levels of mercury, or radiation, or noise, or diseases. Part of this can be explained by the natural diversity of life, part of it by the lifestyle choices of an individual, and part by how well health is supported by the surroundings and community the individual inhabits.

Just as a Brazilian rainforest can become a desert when the trees are removed or burned, our bodies have more organized, effective, supportive, and diverse ways of functioning (like a forest), and less effective ways (like the desert). While a desert can still support life, there are both fewer kinds of life and a much lower mass of living things, because there are much fewer ways to recycle energy and nutrients to keep them available for life in the desert. While a body can still support life when under stress, or missing components, it will have less capacity to perform optimally, and less energy to sustain that performance.

Right-brain dominant people can exhibit autistic spectrum challenges when one or more body system is not working properly. These systems can include the nervous system (brain, spine & nerves), the digestive system, the circulatory system (heart, veins & arteries), the muscular system, the respiratory system (lungs, air ways & sinuses), the reproductive system, the endocrine system (glands & hormones), the integumentary system (skin & fascia), and the immune system (spleen & lymph).
